In what is believed to be the biggest solar pump system in South Africa to date, KG ELECTRIC has supplied a 35.2KWp solar pumping system at Haakdoringduin, about 110km from Upington. The installation was undertaken by AgriSolar of Upington, with engineering and commissioning assistance from KG Electric
Some months ago Eskom launched a rebate scheme for renewable energy technologies as an incentive to reduce demand on the electricity grid. In terms of the Eskom scheme ( called Standard Offer Programme or SOP ) the system must replace an existing grid connection/supply therefore substituting energy that would have been drawn from the grid. The agricultural sector is included in the scheme and therefore solar powered water pumps which displace grid electricity can qualify.
KG ELECTRIC is currently completing an order to rehabilitate a damaged solar pump system to drain acid water at an old coal mining site for BHP Billiton (Mine Closure Operations) near Witbank.
